As an Android user, i am sometimes prone to a problem which is that every time I unlock my phone it opens chrome. This article shows the cause and the possible solution to the problem
Generally, one of the most used browsers in the world due to its excellent features and amazing capability, truly Google Chrome, is something to reckon with. It was developed as a prominent part of the Android Operating system. Not only is it found in Android, but it is also a browser peculiar to other operating systems such as Mac, iOS, Windows, and Linux. Google Chrome is a preinstalled application present in Android (and other Google applications) being the official browser).
It is very fast and capable of downloading data at a very high speed while delivering a top-notched web and user experience. The many features that allow the browser to be stay reckon in the world of browsing are; the history tab which is synchronized with the Google My Activity, the Incognito tab that allows the user to browse in privacy, the ability to simulate as a desktop using the Desktop site option and the Data saver amongst many other options.
Chrome is one of the best, but everything in this life has problems, and one thing that infuriates android users is the presence of unwanted ads. This problem is so severe that many people opt for the use of other browsers, which are equally fast and easy to use, such as the UC browser and Mozilla Firefox. The presence of the ads leads to your device opening Chrome on every unlock. Even though Android devices are made to do the things we want based on what it was programmed to be, opening Chrome every time you unlock your phone to do another thing can be very annoying.
Although the reason is not that general, many people attributed the cause to the installation of applications from unknown sources. In many online android communities, it is common to see many questions, such as:
It does not only begin from Google Chrome, with some people complaining that they also notice it play store before moving to Chrome.
The cause of this problem is not general to all android users, at least as of now, my Google Chrome does not open itself unnecessarily. However, many have accepted that the opening is caused by two things which are; a recent update, or an unknown application that was just installed, which has messed up the android system.
Caused by Unknown application
In a former android device that I was using (OnePlus 5 smartphone), I observed that after downloading an application on the internet and installing it on my device, my Chrome started opening whenever I unlock my phone. The problem was so annoying that I had to use many antiviruses such as Avast in other to search for viruses. None of the methods I used worked, therefore I had to find a way to solve it, which will be discussed in the next part.
If the above reason is not peculiar to yours, it might be due to a recent update. Whether firmware or recent application updates.
There are many things you can try with each one independent of the other. Three methods are used to explain how you can stop Chrome from being opened every time you unlock your phone
GET AN ANTIVIRUS
Although it is not foolproof, getting an antivirus might be the needed solution to stop your device from behaving this irrationally. This solution is the ideal one if the irrational opening of Chrome is due to the presence of the virus. There are many antiviruses you can choose for your Android. Although most need you to pay and I believe you are ready for that. Top antivirus in the Android operating systems is Avast Mobile Security, and Bitdefender Antivirus Free. These applications can detect antivirus, which can eradicate the problem.
BOOT INTO SAFE MODE
If the problem was caused by the presence of an unwanted app, this is the ideal solution. You can detect whether the problem is caused by an unwanted application by booting into safe mode. This action depends on your device with variation in the way each device boot into safe mode. There is a general way of doing so, however, if it does not work for you, kindly contact the customer care of your android device.
To enter safe mode, follow these steps:
if Chrome does not open automatically, when you unlock your device, then it must be due to an application you just installed. Therefore, you must find the application that is causing the problem and uninstall it. To get out of safe mode, you should just restart your device.
FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE
If the above solution does not work for you, it means you have to factory reset your phone. While doing this be careful of FRP
Disable FRP Before Factory Resetting
This process depends on the age of your device. Old devices need several steps, while new devices are straight forward.
When you want to disable the FRP in new devices, it is advised to perform the factory reset using the Settings. The factory reset on Settings depends on the Android version. For Android Pie, navigate to Settings > System > Reset Options > Factory data reset. If this is done, there is no need for error in new devices
For old devices, you must delete all the accounts present on your device manually. These are the steps that you must take to ensure that FRP is not triggered.
If you have not logged in your google mail on the Android device you are trying to factory reset, do not perform a factory reset through the bootloader.
